Humanist East European Conference (Bucharest, 24th-26th April 2015)

The IHEYO East European Conference 2015 – Humanism – from Social Media to Public Policies
Twitter & Facebook hashtag: #HEEC2015

The International Humanists and Ethical Youth Organisation (IHEYO) is the youth wing of the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU). It caters for Humanists aged 18 – 35 worldwide. The work is largely done though through regional Working Groups. Our European Working Group is strong, active and growing. We currently have active members from 15 countries, many of these in Northern Europe. At the World Humanist Congress IHEYO set its target area in Europe as Eastern Europe.

When?

We are presenting to you The IHEYO East European Conference 2015, which is going to hold its first edition in Bucharest, Romania on the 24th, 25th and 26th April 2015. The aim of the conference is to give training, networking and support to the young Humanists working and volunteering in Eastern Europe. We will hold workshops on: leadership, accounting, utilising and using social media, publicity and other areas.

Although the workshops will be focused on the challenges faced by the target area: Eastern, Baltic, Caucasus and Southeastern countries, we are inviting our fellow humanists from other countries to join us as we strongly believe their presence will add a different perspective and enrich the experience.

Why?

Eastern Europe struggles with sociological, economical, religious issues that are different from those existing in the North/West. Humanism is much younger in these countries and therefore often our members are running or are heavily involved in their national organisation. The humanist youth working there have far less support and financial backing than other countries, and religious groups in general have much more power. IHEYO would also like to encourage Humanist individuals in countries without national organisation to set them up.

Support

We will be offering grants to attend the conference to Humanists aged 18 – 35 from Eastern Europe. The grants will be allocated on a case by case basis and application only. The grants will cover either part or all transport and conference ticket costs. This is being funded largely from a kind donation from the European Humanist Federation.

We are still fundraising so that we can give more grants and reduce the ticket costs for all. The aim is to fund the transport, accommodation and meals throughout the whole conference for as many people as possible.

This conference will be a meeting place for people from different cultures gathering under the same thought: a Europe where Secularism, freedom of thought and speech, tolerance and rational thinking are some of the most important principles that guide human beings. We would like to invite you to join us on its first edition!
